You might have noticed more traffic on the road and more pedestrians crossing at certain times of the day - well that would be because It's almost been a full month of being back to school. September is often an adjustment period while we get used to school times and new routines but driving safety is always important and we want to help you get used to the new crowds on the road and on the crosswalks.

Here are some helpful driving tips while school is back in session.

1. You've probably already noticed the increase of school buses on the road, so always ensure to drive the speed limit while around them as well as stop whenever their sign is up. Students either cross in front or behind school buses so it's important to never pass while their lights are flashing - it's also illegal.
2. Respect posted speed limits. You might have noticed new limits in designated school zones, this is to ensure students are kept safe and drivers follow the new speed. Typically, a school zone speed limit is between 30-40 km, so make sure to be aware of signage so you know what speed to drive at.
3. Avoid passing other vehicles while in a school zone. This ensures you stay within the posted speed limit and can be aware of your surroundings.
4. Obey any crossing guards at all times. They are there to protect students that need to cross the street to get to their school. When a crossing guard is out with their stop sign in hand, make sure to stop and wait for everyone to finish crossing, and for the guard to return to the sidewalk before continuing on your commute.
