The HR-V is a popular subcompact SUV that can comfortably accommodate five passengers and offers impressive fuel economy, utility, and performance. Inspired by the very successful CR-V, the HR-V also includes a lot of cargo volume and passenger space that really stands out from the competition. Here’s how the HR-V compares to the 2020 Toyota C-HR.

The 1.8L four-cylinder engine that powers the HR-V generates 141 horsepower and 127 lb-ft of torque. Although the C-HR is slightly ahead of the HR-V in power and torque, the difference does not translate into anything noticeable. The HR-V range includes four versions, three of which have an all-wheel drive. However, you won’t find AWD on the C-HR.

Moreover, the FWD version of the HR-V achieves a better fuel consumption rating than the C-HR with 8.4/7.0 L/100 km (city/highway) against 8.7/7.5 L/100 km for C-HR. The AWD models in the HR-V family have almost the same energy efficiency rating as the front-wheel-drive C-HR, which really drives the point home about how efficient the new HR-V is.

Although both vehicles include continuously variable transmissions (CVTs), the HR-V adds shift paddles on the Sport and Touring versions. These provide a more dynamic driving experience and help you adapt to changing road conditions.

Cargo volume and passenger comfort are two important qualities in any subcompact vehicle. The 1,665 L cargo volume of the HR-V exceeds the C-HR by 634 L. Even with the rear seats up, the HR-V has 158 litres of additional capacity. The driver and front passenger space in the HR-V have more head and shoulder room than in the C-HR. The rear passengers have 193 mm of additional legroom and 50 mm of additional shoulder room compared to what the C-HR offers.

The HR-V also offers advanced navigation and safety systems – some not available with the C-HR. The 2020 Honda HR-V offers more than its rivals in every area.
